After a lovely chat with my tutor, we discussed a comment I had made in my initial plan about Hatfield being the home of aircraft design, and how this could be something to look into.
The De Havilland Aircraft Company opened an aerodrome in 1930 on farmland in Hatfield, going on to produce various aircraft including the Tiger Moth, Dragon Rapide and most famously, the world’s first jet engine plane – the Comet.

I remembered there was a Hatfield Aerodrome Heritage Trail around that part of the town, mainly now residential and warehouses, but with some clear signs that an Aerodrome, runway and its relevant buildings did once exist.
I’ve managed to rope in a friend to accompany me on the 3km walk which is clearly signposted, to see what remains of the once thriving aircraft community which made its home in Hatfield, and put it on the map for aircraft design.
